Theravāda Buddhism, meaning "Teaching of the Elders," is one of Buddhism's oldest and most traditional schools. Rooted in the early teachings of the Buddha, it emphasizes the path to enlightenment through meditation, ethical conduct, and insight into the nature of existence. Practiced widely in countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia, Theravāda is known for its focus on the Pāli Canon, the oldest collection of Buddhist scriptures. It encourages personal responsibility in following the Eightfold Path and attaining Nirvana, making it a deeply introspective and disciplined tradition.
Blue Lotus Buddhist Meditation Center commits to teaching meditation in the community. Much scientific research has been done on meditation and numerous studies have proven how beneficial it can be for those practicing it. Due to its relaxing effect on the body, it can enhance healing from illness. It has also been shown to be helpful to people with various psychological problems, including anxiety disorders, depression, addiction, and other emotional issues. It is also a technique used historically to promote spiritual development.
We have teachers available who can teach meditation to your group. Our meditation is non-denominational and can be taught in churches and schools. We also offer it to organizations that must provide in-services to their employees. Since meditation can be so helpful, we offer this service free of charge, although donations to Blue Lotus are encouraged.
